Philly’s Got A Brand New Bag – Plus A LILL Giveaway!

Last week, I had the pleasure of touring 1154 LILL Studio's newest boutique. The 1154 LILL “design your own handbag” concept was born at a Windy City street fair in 1999 – and since its inception, 1154 LILL Studio has opened stores in Chicago, Boston, and Kansas City. I’m so excited that they’ve found a home in my hometown, Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia boutique boasts 1000 square feet, with wooden design tables throughout the space where customers can create the bag/accessory of their choice by mixing and matching some of the 150 available fabrics. The styles offered range from small cosmetic bags and headbands to large handbags and oversized totes, and cost between $26 and $200.

After touring the premises and hearing the company back story, I was elated to learn that 1154 LILL Studio was allowing me to create my own custom bag! For almost an hour, I played with fabrics, colors, and textures to make a fab bag for Spring. Here’s how the 1154 LILL Studio custom handbag concept works:

1) First pick your style of bag from over 25 current shapes and silhouettes in the line.

2) Mix and match colors, patterns and textures to select the right choice for each part of your bag: exterior, interior, pockets, straps, etc. 1154 LILL Studio introduces new fabrics every few weeks and have between 150 – 300 designer textiles available at any given time.

3) After placing your order, you simply have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for the 1154 LILL Studio team to hand craft it to your exact specifications. Your order will be shipped to you, or you can pick it up in one of the boutique locations.

Even though my bag is currently in the hands of the Chicago-based production team, here’s a sneak peek at my Spoiled Pretty satchel...

Adorable, right? Even if you don’t reside anywhere near one of their boutiques, a one-of-a-kind 1154 LILL Studio creation is at your fingertips – thanks to their online store. 1154lill.com is open 24/7 – and the customization tool lets you see your bag as you design it.

Wait…it gets better. 1154 LILL Studio has graciously donated a $100 gift certificate, so that one lucky Spoiled Pretty reader can design her very own creation!

To enter, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com - be sure to include your full name. The subject line should read "LILL Giveaway.” The contest ends at 9pm EST on Sunday, April 6th. A winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, April 7th, I’ll announce the winner’s name. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents only.

Good Luck!!!

These Eco-Friendly Brushes Are Wallet Friendly Too!

You know I tell it like it is. I’ll let you know when it’s worthwhile to blow your dough. But I’ll also tell you when I find an amazing bargain buy – like ecoTOOLS cosmetic brushes.

These brushes feature bamboo handles (bamboo has a low impact on the earth’s resources), synthetic bristles, and metallic ferrule made from recycled aluminum cans. The cosmetic brushes are housed in reusable/biodegradable pouches, printed with plant-based ink, and each item has a “green” tip on the back of the package…so everyone who purchases a piece of the collection discovers another small step that can create a greener lifestyle. Plus 1% of all annual sales provides financial support to environmental initiatives.

The standouts of the collection are the larger brushes. I’ve been using the Powder Brush almost every day since I got it. It’s unbelievably soft, applies my powder like a dream, and it’s only $7.99!

Individual ecoTOOLs brushes cost between $2.99 and $7.99. But for just $10.99, you can own the 5 Piece Brush Set – housed in a 100% linen and hemp cosmetic case.

ecoTOOLs products (they also offer bath and body items) are available at Walgreens, Kmart, and Ulta.

Rack Em

I wish that my bathroom looked like this.

Unfortunately, it more closely resembles this.

So when it comes to storing my beauty essentials, I need to think creatively. One of my new favorite finds is this chrome magazine rack. It’s simple to install – just lift the toilet tank lid, place the metal hanger over the side, and replace the lid.

It easily holds reading material. But my inspired idea is to use it to store my thermal hair tools. This magazine rack keeps your favorite curling irons and flat irons up and out of the way, but easily accessible.

This one from Sears will only set you back $13.

Not Your Average Jo

For what seems like forever, I’ve heard beauty editors go on and on about Jo Malone. I had yet to hear someone find fault with the products, which I thought was a bit fishy. So I tried their new White Jasmine & Mint line to see if the brand merits all of the rave reviews. OMG. I am completely enamored with Jo – you don’t even know. The products absolutely deserve every accolade I’ve read and heard. They deserve more, in fact – thus my subsequent stellar appraisal.

Last fall, Jo Malone debuted White Jasmine & Mint Cologne – a fragrance “inspired by a tranquil moment in an English garden when the sun emerges, the dew gently lifts and the blossoms are at their most fragrant. Notes of just-picked white jasmine, chamomile, wild mint, rose and coriander are entwined in this lush combination.”

In March 2008, Jo Malone introduced four new offerings to the collection – White Jasmine & Mint Bath Oil, Shower Gel, Body Crème and Home Candle.

The quality of these products is beyond compare. If I were to search my mental lexicon and come up with a phrase that best describes Jo Malone, it would be sumptuous indulgence. And the fragrance…where do I begin? The White Jasmine & Mint scent is an elegant, crisp recipe that is decidedly feminine – womanly, not girly.

The White Jasmine & Mint Home Candle is without a doubt, the best candle I’ve ever smelled. Every night this week, I’ve lit the wick immediately upon returning home. It fills my apartment with the most enchanting aroma…I could wax poetic about it all day long. Once you drink in the scent of White Jasmine & Mint, you’ll be a convert too.

Jo Malone products are available at Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and jomalone.com.

Zac Efron Wears Heatherette Bronzer?

Last night, E! ran a piece on Heatherette. Daily 10 host Catt Sadler interviewed the dynamic duo about their new MAC collection. Here are some juicy highlights from the tête-à-tête-a-tête:

Pretty boy Zac Efron, of High School Musical Fame, was recently sent a care package – courtesy of Richie Rich. Zac’s fondness for bronzer is well-known (and documented), so Richie sent him Heatherette Beauty Powder in Smooth Harmony.

Richie’s favorite product from the collection is the Beauty Powder in Alpha Girl, while Traver prefers the Hollywood Nights Lipstick.

Because I Can't Get Enough Of Heatherette

My Plea To T3

I heart my hair dryer. There’s really nothing I would change about my T3 Featherweight Dryer. Add to it? That’s another story.

For as long as I can remember, I have been using a pik attachment in tandem with my hair dryer. The two rows of teeth glide through hair and detangle, while the dryer is doing its job. Most importantly, the pik eliminates the need for the round or vent brush that many use when drying their hair. And it straightens like you wouldn’t believe, even at the roots.

Some dryers come with pik attachments and some don’t. But for the ones that don’t, you can usually find a universal pik attachment at a beauty supply store. But with my magical T3, the universal pik attachments don’t fit. Plus there’s a warning that if you damage the dryer by trying to channel MacGyver (I’m paraphrasing, obviously), the warranty is null and void.

Currently, three of T3’s four dryers come with a Tourmaline concentrator nozzle. And the only T3 attachment that is available for purchase is their Bespoke Diffuser II. So I’m resorting to begging.

T3, please create a pik attachment for your dryers! You could call it the Spoiled Pretty Pik. Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it?

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner

When you think of toner, you probably envision a runny product that stings the skin, leaves your face somewhat tight, and smells like rubbing alcohol. That’s what I thought about, anyway, until I tried Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Toner.

First of all, its non-alcoholic formula is unscented. So no walking around with a face that smells like a medicine cabinet. And the creamy texture doesn’t tingle like traditional toners, but it is just as effective – if not more – thanks to emollients that gently remove residue while moisturizing and comforting skin.

The Ultra Facial Toner works for everyone – not just oily/combination skin types. In fact, after washing with Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and then toning with this product, my dry skin was so hydrated that I skipped moisturizer!

And for you ladies who have been desperately trying to introduce your man’s skin to a more upscale skincare routine – look no further. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial products are gentle, unscented, and have guy-friendly packaging. Buy yourself some, and sit them by the sink. Sharing is caring.

Available at Kiehl’s counters and at kiehls.com.

Coffee Break and Tea Time For Your Lips

I have a soft spot for lip balms…probably because they were my first foray into the world of makeup. When I was a pre-teen, my mom would buy me Avon lip balms – as reward for good grades, good behavior, and completed chores. I had every imaginable flavor, and I would stockpile them in my Caboodle. They smelled so good that my then two-year-old sister ate my entire Mint Chocolate Chip lip balm. Mister Yuck stickers became a staple in our house that year, but I digress.

Though I’ve grown up a lot since then, I haven’t outgrown my love for lip balm. I’m always looking for new flavors. And while I’m sometimes tempted to buy one of the balms from my youth, I continue to keep my eyes peeled for balms that match my refined, mature tastes. And I found them…

Crazy Rumors offers 12 exotic coffee and tea flavored lip balms that leave your lips moisturized, protected and feeling fantastic. The balms are vegan, packaged in 100% recyclable containers, and never tested on animals.

Perk - Lip Lattes are sure to awaken your senses. Take a whiff and smooth them on… these captivating aromas are what mornings were meant for.

Amaretto: Rich almond and pure natural vanilla makes this aromatic flavor a delight.

Coffee Bean: True to the name, a full-flavored freshly roasted cup of coffee - bold and robust.

French Vanilla: Natural creamy vanilla; smooth, satisfying and simply delicious - a favorite of all.

Hazelnut: Distinctively nutty with a touch of sweetness makes this flavor oh, so irresistible.

Mocha: Flavorful coffee combined with pure chocolate - a perfect match.

Irish Cream: Creamy, sweet and smooth flavor with a hint of vanilla - reminiscent of the famous liqueur.

Brew – Tea Balms are the all natural, rejuvenating flavors found in your favorite tea - packed into a soothing treat for your lips!

Plum Apricot: An amazing fusion of fruits at its finest - rejoice for this rejuvenating scent.

Orange Bergamot: Better known as the world’s famous Earl Grey - a sweet and sophisticated blend of tantalizing citrus fruits.

Apple Spice: Tart apples and sweet cinnamon come together for an outrageous, cider like experience.

Peppermint Lemongrass: The combination of refreshing citrus and cooling peppermint will make lips tingle and mouths smile.

Ginger Peach: An invigorating mixture of fresh, juicy peach blended with intoxicating ginger – simply keen.

Spiced Chai: A rich, complex blend of savory spiced cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla with a hint of ginger - a delightful surprise. (Spoiled Pretty fave)

A .15 oz tube will run you the same as a Starbucks Grande Soy Caffe Mocha – no whip…but with 290 fewer calories. Available at Urban Outfitters and a store near you.

Speaking Of Heatherette

I was just perusing People.com and came across this photo of the duo behind Heatherette. Richie is stylin' and Traver is profilin'.

And here's something you don't see too often - Kim Kardashian without a heavy-handed application of eyeliner. Richie's got on more makeup than Kim. I'm really liking her lighter look - that nude lipcolor is the perfect shade for her skin.

Thank Heaven For Heatherette

Yesterday, Mr. Spoiled Pretty and I went over my parents’ house for Easter Dinner. When I walked through the front door, I immediately noticed my mom’s sassy lipcolor.

Here’s how the convo went down...

Mom: Do you like my new lipstick?
Me: Actually, I really do. What lipstick is that?
Mom: Oh, it’s from MAC. That new stuff. I can’t remember the name.
Me: From Heatherette?
Mom: Yeah, that’s it! Hollywood Nights is the name, I think.

What the bleep?!?! My mother is down with Heatherette? Here I thought I was too cute with my lips slicked in Sock Hop – and my mother goes and tops me by wearing in-your-face fuchsia.

I guess the point of this story is to emphasize the universal appeal of this color collection. From club kids to soccer moms (and all of us in between), everyone is loving Heatherette. And from the swatches below, you can see why. Nothing fell short of my expectations, which speaks volumes – because I had high hopes for Heatherette.

Which products are my favorites? They’re all amazing. But let’s put it this way…if I had a limited budget, here are the ones I’d pick up, mos def:

Hollywood Nights Lipstick
Sock Hop Lipglass
Heatherette Trio 1
Any of the Dual Edge Eye Pencils (you can’t go wrong)

And without further ado, my pics...

Here's my Heatherette sampling, courtesy of the munificent folks at MAC.

Left to right: Pink Pearl Pigment, 3D Silver Glitter, and Heatherette Trio 1 (Mood Ring, Hoppin’, and Cloudburst).

Left to right: Dual Edge Eye Pencils in Phone Me/Text Me and Nighthawk/Front Row.

Top to bottom: Lipglass in Sock Hop, Lipstick in Lollipop Lovin, Lipglass in Style Minx, and Lipstick in Hollywood Nights.

Be A Shady Lady With Stila’s Contouring Trio

Want to slim your nose, open up your eyes, or chisel your cheekbones? You could go the plastic surgery route, but that's so expensive – not to mention permanent. Luckily, Stila's got a solution for all the fickle penny-pinchers out there.

The Stila Contouring Trio is a set of three shading powders to sculpt your facial features. If the word ‘contour’ is dredging up frightful memories of the 1980’s, be not afraid. Stila has modernized the art of contouring, and made it super-easy to follow.

Each compact contains three shades: light (a high-lighting powder), dark (a low-lighting powder), flash (a soft neutral shimmer), a step by step simple instructions on how to contour cheeks, nose and eye, and some cute lights that surrounds the mirror.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to follow the directions and replicate the looks – not to mention how flattering the shading powders were on my skin tone.

And here’s the best thing about this kit…at the end of the night when I was starting to miss my petite, cat nose and chipmunk cheeks, I simply washed my face.

The Stila Contouring Trio is available at Sephora and stilacosmetics.com.

MAC Beauty Powder Blush Review

Everytime I get an itch to expand my beauty arsenal, I pick up a new treat for my eyes or lips - and I often forget about my cheeks. I've been alternating between the same two blushes for about about a year, so I was overjoyed when MAC debuted their limited-edition Beauty Powder Blushes.

Available in eight gorgeous shades, these silky, smooth blushes offer a high-color payout. A little goes a long way - so gently sweep over cheeks, and use a slightly heavier hand on the apples for a bright pop of color.

MAC generously gifted me with four blushes from the collection. See below for swatches. Joyous has become my personal fave, and I have been applying with the fabulous 169 Angled Brush.

Left to right: Joyous - Peach with gold pearl; Sweetness - Intense blue pink; True Romantic - Mid-tone pink with silver pearl; and Serenely - Deep brownish red with gold pearl.

MAC Strobe Review

In early March, MAC unveiled Strobe - three enlightened ways to brighten your look: Strobe Cream, our original blend of sheer soft-focus diffusers; Strobe Liquid, instant radiance in fluid, light-diffusion form; and for lips, Tinted Lip Conditioner Stick SPF 15 with strobe pearl.

Now that I've had an opportunity to play, here are my thoughts on the collection...

Strobe Liquid is a must have. It is such a remarkable product that I've used it every day since I received my bottle. The light-diffusers add a radiance to skin that looks like it's coming from within - so it looks like you're glowing, not your makeup. Apply it selectively (cheekbones, browbone, bridge of the nose, cupid's bow) or mix it in with your foundation/tinted moisturizer and apply all over. Either way, you can't go wrong. This universally flattering product is the best highlighter I've ever used. Use Strobe Liquid if your skin is normal, or on the oily side. If you have dry skin, opt for the Strobe Cream.

On the other hand, when it comes to the Tinted Lip Conditioner Stick SPF 15 - I say save your money. These lip conditioners moisturize and protect your pout, but as you can see from the photo above, they leave only a hint of color. In my opinion, the barely-there color payout isn't worth $14.50.

Stay tuned for reviews of MAC's Beauty Powder Blush and Heatherette collections.
