David Wu Resign After Scandal Photos - Democratic leaders in the House quickly called for an ethics investigation, David Wu (D-Ore.) engaged in unwanted sexual activity with the teenage daughter of a donor
Others called for David Wu immediate resignation from office. On Monday there were reports that David Wu would not seek re-election, but would not resign either. David Wu issued a statement calling the allegations, published in The Oregonian, "very serious," but did not confirm or deny the report.
Over the weekend, information leaked out that the seven-term House member David Wu engaged in a sexual relationship with a friend and campaign donor’s 18-year old daughter. The young woman called the congressman’s Portland office in May and left a voice message, accusing David Wu of “aggressive and unwanted sexual behavior.” David Wu admitted to his staff he had intimate with the young woman but said the act was consensual.
David Wu had multiple conversations with Democrat House leaders over the weekend, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. Instead of publicly asking David Wu to immediately resign, Pelosi instead called on the Ethics Committee to investigate the allegations against David Wu.
“I call on the Ethics Committee to initiate an investigation into the allegations against Congressman David Wu,” Pelosi said in her statement on Sunday. “With deep disappointment and sadness about this situation, I hope that the Ethics Committee will take up this matter.”
Democratic insiders close to Pelosi and other House leaders have told David Wu in no uncertain terms “that he has not support” from his colleagues or party leaders and they would like to see him resign as soon as possible.
A David Wu adviser, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told POLITICO on Sunday, “David Wu isn’t going to be running for reelection. But he hasn’t done anything that rises to the level of requiring him to resign.”
