Drugstore Beauty Must Haves!

After a brief television hiatus, I'm back on the tube again...this time, dishing on my favorite drugstore beauty must haves.

We all know that it doesn't actually cost a million bucks to look like a million bucks. But there are thousands of skin/body care products and cosmetics at your local drugstore...and choosing what should go in your basket and what should stay on the shelf can be overwhelming.

So reporter (and fabulous style blogger) Lilliana Vazquez asked me to share my beauty expertise with Philadelphia's NBC10 viewers and name my top drugstore beauty buys. Some of my current faves include:

L'Oreal Paris Ideal Skin Genesis Complexion Equalizer Day/Night Cream, $19.99 (comparable to Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Correcting Moisturizer SPF 20, $42.50)

Revlon PhotoReady Makeup, $13.99 (comparable to Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation, $40)

CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion, $9.99 (comparable to Diorshow Mascara, $24)

Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss, $5.99 (compare to Lancome Juicy Tubes, $18)

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Blush and Highlighter, $12.99 (compare to Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, $38)

What are your favorite drugstore finds? Spill your must haves in the comments section...

New York Fashion Week: Band of Outsiders, Spring 2010

For their Spring 2010 New York Fashion Week show, Band of Outsiders opted for minimal makeup aesthetic. Key Makeup artist James Kaliardos described the look as "Cool and healthy sun-tanned surfer girls. Non-glamorous movie makeup."

MAC products employed to create this look include:
Face - Face and Body Foundation applied with Brush 188 to create a sun-tanned look.
Eye - Bone Beige and Shadowy Scupt and Shape Powders mixed together and very lightly applied to eyelids and sockets.
Cheeks - Posey Blushcreme applied to cheeks with fingers, and Pink Swoon Powder Blush layered on top.
Lips - Dim Lip Erase patted onto lips with fingers, and Lip Conditioner layered on top to create a moist look.

Bumble and bumble was responsible for the playful, beachy waves.

Fall Beauty Trends on the NBC 10! Show - Plus a Giveaway!

As you probably know, today is the official kickoff of New York Fashion Week, Spring 2010. In fact, I'll be traveling to NYC on Saturday to attend Fashion Week events and report from backstage. But before we move forward, let's take a look back to Fashion Week, Fall 2009. Last spring, I went behind the scenes at some of the hottest shows - and noticed some emerging trends.

Last week, I appeared on the NBC 10! Show to talk about five of the fiercest beauty trends for fall - and introduce viewers to must-have products to help them nail the looks.

Watch and learn...

For more of my NBC 10! Show appearances, click here!

In honor of my latest TV appearance, I'm giving away a selection of the products featured in the segment!!! One lucky winner will receive:

Revlon Brow Specialist Kit: The set includes three brow stencils in varying degrees of arch to fit every shape, tweezers, a universally flattering brow pencil, and brow gel - all in a sleek carrying case.

Urban Decay Ink For Eyes Liner (all six shades!): More precise than a pencil and more forgiving than a liquid, this super-smooth formula offers more control, and buildable coverage than your average liner. The angled liner brush creates a razor sharp line, and the formula lasts all day (or night). Available in six gorgeous colors: Binge (midnight blue), Demolition (brown), Empire (eggplant), Loaded (deep green), Pyrotechnics (iridescent glitter with clear base), and Zero (black).

Goody Resort Glamour Kingston Bobby Slides: These are the next generation of bobby pins. They are some of the most darling bobby pins I've ever seen, and come in a selection of shades sure to match your personality, hair color and/or ensemble.

OPI Matte Collection (all six shades!): OPI recently released six of their best-selling shades in non-glossy formulation. The collection includes: Alpine Snow(a fresh crisp white), Gargantuan Green Grape (green kissed by the summer sun), La Paz-itively Hot (a hot pink perfect for when you’re Bo-livia la vida loca), Lincoln Park After Dark (where midnight meets purple), Russian Navy (wait until you see this deep-sea indigo!) and You Don’t Know Jacques! (if you don’t know how trendy this taupe is!).

To enter the giveaway, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name and mailing address. The subject line should read "Fall Trends Giveaway." The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Thursday, September 17th. One winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Friday, September 18th, I'll announce the winner's name. Summer Beauty Staples on the NBC 10! Show

Watch my latest NBC 10! Show appearance to hear about my favorite summer beauty staples!

View more news videos at: http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/video.

Every member of the studio audience went home with a few product samples. But before you get all "where can I get me a 10! show ticket?" - just relax. How could you think I would forget about my online amigas?

If you don't know me by now, you will never never never know me...

This week, I'm gifting one of you with a plethora of products that will help you beat the heat and keep you looking hot all summer long!

Clinique Sun with SolarSmart is a new line of sunscreens that protect against both UVA and UVB rays. The formula is non-greasy, oil-free, water and sweat resistant, yet appropriate for sensitive skin. The range includes: SPF 30 Face Cream, SPF 50 Face Cream, SPF 30 Body Cream, SPF 50 Body Cream, SPF 15 Face/Body Cream, SPF 25 Body Spray, SPF 45 Targeted Protection Stick, and Rescue Balm with Aloe.

ModelCo Body Meringue Bronze Glow is an instant bronze shimmer and gradual self-tanner, in a mousse formula. This weightless foam firms the skin while offering a light buildable, natural tan. After smoothing the foam on, a light instant bronze appears so you can see exactly where you've applied. And over the next few hours, your tan gradually deepens. The best thing about Body Meringue, IMO, is it's skin firming properties; it contains an ingredient that helps minimize the appearance of cellulite. Can you even? And if you want to kick your tan up a notch, mist on ModelCo’s Shimmer Airbrush Illuminiser over tanned skin for a sparkly effect. My little secret tip is to spray it in your hair, which looks beyond amazing on all hair colors!

If the Philadelphia heat and humidity turn your face into an oil slick, I feel you. I get shiny too, and it’s very embarrassing and it’s a high-maintenance situation. Philosophy’s Never Let Them See You Shine line of skincare products are specifically designed to control oil. The Cleanser deep cleans pores and the Scrub gently exfoliates. The Primer creates a matte finish, and can be applied on bare skin or mixed with foundation.

Secret Clinical Waterproof Antiperspirant and Deodorant offers all-day protection through heat and humidity, or after being in the water. So it’s ideal in the city, at the pool, or at the shore. The formula is skin soothing, and Secret Clinical Waterproof is designed with two-click applicator to ensure that the right amount of product is delivered to the underarm area with each use.

In the summertime, you want to choose a lighter fragrance because heavier winter scents can become cloying in the warmer months. I’ve found the perfect summer scent: Citron de Vigne Eau de Parfum by Fresh. Inspired by France’s Champagne region, the fragrance has crisp, lemony top notes, a heart of pinot noir and an earthy base. Citron de Vigne is unisex, so buy a bottle and your entire household can share!

This prize is worth over $360!

To enter, send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name and mailing address. The subject line should read "Summer Beauty Staples Giveaway." The contest ends at midnight (EST) on Monday, June 1st. One winner will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Tuesday, June 2nd, I'll announce the winner's name. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. and Canadian residents.

Good luck!

Watch Me On The NBC 10! Show

Today, I appeared on the NBC 10! Show. You all know that I could fill the entire hour gabbing about beauty products...but, alas, I only had five minutes. At the top of the show, I shared some of my favorite money-saving tips, which include:

* Whenever you buy online, do a Google search for promotional/coupon codes and free shipping deals. You'd be surprised by how a few minutes of investigative work can save you a pretty penny.

* Sign up for a free rewards card at your favorite beauty retailers. With Sephora's Beauty Insider Program, you accrue a point for every dollar you spend. When your 'beauty bank' hits 100 points, you can choose a deluxe sample. Plus, Sephora treats you to a deluxe beauty treat on your birthday. Stila Cosmetics just unveiled a similar program.

* Register your email with your favorite beauty brand or online retailers - to have news, coupons, and exclusive deals delivered to you inbox.

* My hairdresser is a longtime friend of the family, so we have a special arrangement. I bring in my own products and he gives me a discount. If you have a good relationship with your hairdresser, see if he/she would be amenable to a similar deal.

* Beauty schools offer salon services at discounted rates, so consider taking advantage of their menu of services.

A little later in the program, I returned with more tips and some fabulous budget beauty product recommendations!

My Latest MAC Purchase: You'll Be Green With Envy

Today, after attending the Cashman & Associates Girls’ Day Out event, Mama Spoiled Pretty and I headed over to Macy’s for some extra innings of shopping. Mom was kinda working my last nerve, shopping up a storm, then asking me (aka telling me) to carry her heavy bags. But then she spotted a $180 Michael Kors dress - in my size - for $9. Can you even believe? So all was forgiven and Philadelphia has since been re-named the City of Motherly Love. Anyway, despite saving $171 on the dress, it still wasn’t my most satisfying purchase of the day.

Before mom and I headed for the petites department, we stopped at the MAC counter and had a ball playing with the makeup. At first, mom was all, “What do you need more MAC makeup for?” Obviously, I did not inherit my product addiction from my mother. But after watching me get all done up, thanks to the talented and knowledgeable MAC makeup artist Jillian, she too was bitten by the MAC bug. Jillian gave her a very sophisticated smoky eye and mom ended up buying both of the shadows Jillian used - Nehru (muted bluish black) and Knight Divine (black w/ silver pearl).

For my fabulous purchase (you’re going to be green with envy), watch the video:
