Jennifer Lopez & Her Beehive/Ratsnest Hairdo

I'm usually behind (pun intended) J Lo when it comes to her fashion and beauty choices, but I don't know how I feel about the beehive/ratsnest hairstyle she wore to the UK premiere of her new film, The Back-Up Plan.

One minute I'm all "Homegirl should have had a back-up plan for that do." The next minute, I think it's the fiercest red carpet hair I've seen in a long while. Who knows...maybe the hairstyle had nothing to do with style at all, and her exaggerated bun was just a ruse to sneak her toddler twins, Max and Emme, into the movie without paying. Damn, Jenny, I know movie tickets are ridiculously high and all, but you didn't have to do all this!

But don't get me started on that dress. I realize that it's Lanvin, but it might as well be the winner of a Project Runway trash bag challenge.

Oscars 2010 Beauty: Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez was dazzling on the Oscar red carpet, wearing a beautiful Armani Prive dress, accented by an elegantly texturized updo created by master stylist Robert Vetica. The look was very modern and sophisticated.

To create the style, Vetica started by applying Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream on wet hair to create smoothness and shine. After blowdrying hair straight he sectioned hair off and created two ponytails, an inch apart, one on top of the other to create volume below the crown of the head.

Next, Vetica used a curling iron on each ponytail to create texture, and then brushed them out for width and volume. After creating the shape of the updo, he strategically pulled out stands throughout the look to create a modern textured effect using flyaways around the forehead to further soften. He then finished with new argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray.

Moroccanoil is sold in fine salons and spas.

Grammy Gorgeous: Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez dazzled at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, wearing a dramatic silver Versace gown, and 70's-inspired hair designed by stylist Robert Vetica.

Volume and texture were the hallmarks of the all-one-length, below the shoulder look.

Vetica started by applying Moroccanoil Treatment on wet hair and blow-dried it smooth, creating a middle part using a large round brush for volume. He then used a 1" curling iron, curling each section, and dragging the curled spirals down. He started in the back, working towards the front of the head and lifting her hair away from the face.

After the curled hair set, Vetica finger-brushed the look and applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream to hold the set and add additional texture. Finally he brushed out the hair, then backcombed underneath for maximum fullness and volume. Vetica finished with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray for free-moving, shine-enhancing hold.

Men's Fragrance News

When I first heard that Josh Hartnett was teaming up with Armani for their newest men’s fragrance, I thought, “It’s a match made in heaven…if the cologne’s name is Unibrow.”

Alas, the name doesn’t have anything to do with Josh’s fuzzy lower-forehead. He will be the face of Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men, which will be unveiled next month during Spring/Summer fashion week in Milan.

Giorgio Armani said of Hartnett: “Both on and off screen he has a charm and charisma that is magnetic. His individuality, allure and nonchalant way of being are all qualities which inspired me in the creation of this new fragrance.” Apparently, Mr. Armani hasn’t seen Pearl Harbor, Hollywood Homicide, The Black Dahlia, Halloween H20…

In other men’s fragrance news, Jennifer Lopez will release her first masculine fragrance, Deseo for Men, this September.

"I wanted to capture the intimate and personal nature of a man who is sexy, yet strong," says J.Lo. "Deseo means desire. I wanted to take this meaning and put it behind the idea of one desiring another. The smell is warming and creates a provocative and sensual texture."

The fragrance has "top notes of lemon, yuzu, red berries and cedar leaf; a heart of tobacco leaves, guaicwood and orris, and a dry down of sandalwood, cedarwood, patchouli, amber and vanilla.”

The Deseo for Men collection will include Eau de Toilette (1.7 oz for $45 and 3.4 oz for $55), a 3.4 oz aftershave balm ($40), and a 2.4 oz deodorant ($16).

Deseo Winner Writes Back

Paula, one of the Deseo giveaway winners, sent me this glowing review of her prize:

I was one of the winners of the Deseo spray and lotion contest that you had recently. I wanted to email you and rave about how much I love this scent. I must admit, I didn't know what to expect, being a celebrity fragrance, but this is just wonderful. I am not good with "fragrance notes" but I do know what smells good and good on me - and this definitely shines. I have been layering the scent almost every morning since I recieved it, and have gotten many compliments from co-workers wanting to know what I was wearing - and then being surprised to know it was a Jennifer Lopez scent.

My 74-year-old mother was there when I opened it, so I put it on her, too. It smelled different on her, but still equally pleasant. She was quite taken with it, so now I am keeping a close eye on my bathroom to make sure it doesn't mysteriously move into hers. :)

So, it's definitely good for different types and admired by many. I want to thank you sincerely for offering this contest and I am so happy to have won and let you know my opinions.

Desirable Giveaway

In February, Jennifer Lopez gave birth to twins Max and Emme. Congrats, J.Lo! That same month, she also debuted her sixth fragrance - Deseo.

“Deseo means desire…wish…dream…things that you want. It just seemed perfect for this time in my life and what I am communicating to people. Which is to inspire them, and to dream, and to want more, and to never stop reaching for the things they want to accomplish in their lives - that’s really the sentiment behind it.” – Jennifer Lopez

Deseo is a floral, woody scent - inspired by the smell and feel of the air during a midnight walk in Jennifer’s flower garden, moments before a thunderstorm. The scent of orange blossom, jasmine and mimosa mingles with cedar wood and wet earth radiating energy and warmth.

The notes include:

A Radiant Top
Watery Bamboo Leaves, Garden Yuzu, Sicilian Bergamot, Freesia

A Voluptuous Heart
Star Jasmine, Pink Geranium Flower, Orange Blossom, French Mimosa

A Natural Base
Warm Amber, Oak moss, Sensual Musks, Creamy Sandalwood, Atlas Cedar wood, Patchouli, Mineral Accord

This was a very personal project for Jennifer, since it really focuses on going back to her roots, her Latin culture - so her approval was extremely important throughout the entire process. Jennifer was extremely involved in the print and television shoot, in which she worked with creative director Oliver van Doorne, and photographer Peter Lindbergh to make sure they were getting out of the shoot exactly what they wanted to convey in the ad - a sense of unrefined luxury.

If you desire Deseo, you’re in luck. Five lucky readers will win the Eau de Parfum spray (3.4 fl oz) and Desirable Body Lotion (6.7 fl oz) – retail value is $83.

To enter the giveaway, visit the jenniferlopezbeauty.com and find out the names of Jennifer’s first 5 fragrances. Then send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com - be sure to include the answers and your full name. The subject line should read "Deseo Giveaway.”

The contest ends at 9 pm EST on Sunday, March 9th. Winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, March 10th, I’ll announce the winners' names. Please, only one entry per person; duplicate entries will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents. Good luck!

Felix Rey Giveaway!

I don’t really fancy myself a trendsetter. But for New York Fashion Week, I pulled out all the stops. Nordstrom LBD. BCBG patent pumps. Oversized sunglasses. Designer handbags galore.

Unfortunately, one of my most stylish accessories never saw the light of day because it stayed hidden in my purse. So it makes its debut tonight. Behold, my Felix Rey cosmetic case.

Check out the intricate lace motif and the logo zipper pull...super chic!

Felix Rey was born in 2001, when friends Lily Rafii and Sulaika Zarrouk decided to design accessories for the smart and stylish girl-about-town. They soon realized they were on to something when their bags started selling out at Bergdorf’s. Then fictional fashionista Carrie Bradshaw carried one of their bags on “Sex And The City” - and the rest, as they say, is history.

Today, Felix Rey continues to create haute handbags – as well as belts, wallets, umbrellas, and other small accessories that round out the line. They describe their customer as “the modern girl with a whimsical flair for style,” and their celebrity fans include Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Lucy Liu, Jessica Simpson, Anne Hathaway, and Paris Hilton – just to name a few.

I’m a huge fan too…which is why I am so thrilled to announce that Spoiled Pretty is giving away three of their cosmetic bags! Yay!! Thank you, Felix Rey!!!

To enter the giveaway, visit the Felix Rey website and find out who the company is named after. Then send an email to spoiledprettycontests@gmail.com - be sure to include the answer and your full name. The subject line should read "Felix Rey Giveaway.”

The contest ends at 9 pm EST on Sunday, February 17th. Winners will be chosen at random from among the entrants. On Monday, February 18th, I’ll announce the winners' names. Please, only one comment per person; duplicate comments will not increase your chances of winning. Contest is open to U.S. & Canadian residents. Good luck!

Fragrance 4-1-1

Burberry will release its sixth fragrance, ‘The Beat,’ in March. The women’s perfume is described as a “sparkling woody floral scent,” and incorporates three principal notes - Ceylon tea, iris accord, and bluebell. Other key notes include bergamot, cardamom, pink pepper, mandarin, white musk, vetiver and cedarwood.

If industry rumblings are any indication, Justin Timberlake may be the face of the next Parfums Givenchy men's fragrance. Here’s to hoping the SexyBack singer and French fashion house can get in sync.

Actor Matthew McConaughey will be the face of Dolce & Gabbana's upcoming fragrance, The One For Men, set to hit shelves in March 2008. “I like spicy-oriental notes and we’ve never done these types of fragrances, it’s a little warmer than our other men’s scents,” said Stefano Gabbana. "I wanted it to be a classic — not a banal classic, but a classic men's fragrance that would last for years and be the type of scent that women adore," he added. The fragrance will have notes of grapefruit, coriander, basil, cardamom, ginger, orange blossom, cedarwood, ambergris, and tobacco.

Jennifer Lopez will launch her next fragrance, Deseo, in February 2008. Deseo was inspired by a combination of smells in the singer’s own garden, and is the first of Lopez’s fragrances to reference her Latin heritage. The fragrance’s notes include bamboo leaves, yuzu, bergamot, freesia, star jasmine, pink geranium flower, orange blossom, mimosa, warm amber, oak moss, musk, sandalwood, cedar, patchouli and mineral accord. And Deseo’s bottle was designed to resemble a “diamond in the rough.”

Doing It Well

Jennifer Lopez, and her rumored unborn twins, have been very busy lately. To promote her sixth studio album, Brave, Lopez has appeared on Good Morning America, The Late Show with David Letterman – and most recently, Dancing With The Stars.

But Jenny from the block isn’t satisfied with conquering the radio and small screen. She’s also on newsstands now – showing off her pregnancy glow on the November issue of Allure.

For Lopez's Allure cover look - dramatic false eyelashes, dewy skin, and glossy nude lips - her longtime makeup artist Scott Barnes drew inspiration from 1960s model Marisa Berenson. "I understand Jennifer's face so well I could do it in the dark. I have," he says. "She's my muse beyond a shadow of a doubt."

Recreating JLo’s makeup is as easy as 1, 2, 3:

1. Fill out the upper and lower lashlines with clusters of false lashes; they give a more natural effect than full lashes. Swipe a stroke of black liquid liner along both lids to camouflage the falsies. Brush black mascara on the top and bottom lashes.

2. Fill in the lips with a pale, nude pencil.

3. Add a layer of shimmery, clear lip gloss. Makeup artist Scott Barnes always uses his fingertips to apply the maximum amount.
