Stages of the spiritual path (Comments on Patanjali's Scheme)
In ancient times, Indian rishi Patanjali highlighted the principal stages of the climb to the heights of spiritual, to Consciousness. He distinguished eight major steps of this ascent: yama - niyama - asana - pranayama - pratyahara - Dharana - dhyana - samadhi. However, because the first two of these steps are very similar and are to be practiced simultaneously, we treat them as one and view the system as a seven-step "octave". Look at the steps. Yama and Niyama
These terms are translated as "effort and relaxation" or "exercise and rest." This stage consists in mastering the basic principles of ethical principles and psychosocial health of an applicant for a spiritual life. The first rule is called ahimsa - do not matter. This means trying not to hurt, as far as possible, any living thing in the acts, words, thoughts and emotions. This is also ethically correct nutrition principles that we discussed above, and last but not least, get rid of the coarse emotions, which are the result of bad thoughts, and often lead to rude words and deeds. We can ethical mistakes, including crimes, resulting in one of our own ignorance, lack of understanding of universal order and our place and role in it, or as a result of indulging our emotions, despite the condemnation, jealousy, resentment, fear, despair, fear, etc. ., which are a manifestation of our "projects" below "me." Destruction of the lower self by linking it to the Supreme Creator of the universal Self is one of the most important tasks on the spiritual path. This kind of work begins with an internal fight against all forms of erroneous lower self - especially those that exist in the field of emotional reactions. Repentance is an important tool in this task - a sincere regret for mistakes he had committed ethical, together with the mental analysis of the situation, the problem and finding the best ways to solve them. Many people do not understand the principle of non-condemnation.Condemnation is an emotion, a form of anger. Identification and discussion of the mistakes of others, as well as intellectual analysis of them do not condemn. Analysis is essential, because what helps us to not repeat the mistakes of others. However, when performing this type of analysis should be free from any emotion, anger. Emotions are energy states of consciousness. They come out of the body, thus creating an environment of energy for humans and other creatures around us. People who live in coarse emotional states of destructive environmental and pathogenic for people around them. Communicating with such people can cause serious damage to the energy and disease, especially in children. But people who live in the states of subtle love to do everything around the body healthy, spiritual, and elevated, but their mere presence. And their love stronger and more efficient to be aware of - they build up more space - to a planetary scale. A person seeking spiritual can achieve complete control over the emotional sphere, only by working with the chakras and other energy patterns, and then by combining (in awareness) from the Divine Consciousness. But he should start making efforts since the beginning of the path. The second principle is yama Sathya - truthfulness, purity, and honesty. However, there are cases in which we can not tell you the truth, because that hurt someone. In such cases it is better to avoid the question ...
But if we lie, we become sinners before God and our prisoners to lie in front of people, because we have to understand the disclosure and live in fear, not a persistent state of a clean room. The third principle asteya - not greed, resigned from the desire to have something that belongs to someone else. We have to be totally focused on the knowledge of God! Craving for material objects, especially those belonging to other people, is an utter perversion of the true orientation of consciousness, which at the same time leads to harming other people. The fourth principle is aparigraha - limiting the ownership of the necessary things. Unnecessary things just to divert our attention from the essential: to focus on the implementation of mergence with the Creator.
Brahmacharya - the fifth rule - literally means "acting in Brahman (Holy Spirit)." This means giving up worldly desires (except for attending to the basic needs of the body) and directing attention toward God, seeking Him first with the mind, then - with the developed consciousness. This principle implies the renunciation of the sincere search of fame and worldly honors, collecting things that are necessary in a world of Brahman and decoration of the body. Some interpret Brahmacharya rule only as celibacy (sexual abstinence). But it is too narrow an interpretation. Besides, sexual continence is even necessary, provided that one considers sex as a spiritual act. On the contrary, celibacy can lead to the prostate gland in men, an energetic "fading" of women, and the result of growing awareness of "callous" - in both. It really does not contribute to progress on the spiritual path. What is important is not abstaining from sex, but release from obsessed with him and with inadequate sexual partners. The sixth principle is saucha - maintaining the purity of the body. The main thing is washing the whole body with warm or hot soapy water - daily, if possible. It cleanses the skin with sweat, salt deposits, which disrupt the normal functioning of the body.Remember, what we feel after taking a bath, especially if you have not washed the body from that for a long time! It is the comfort that we can and should make for yourself a daily body wash in the morning. Saucha also means brushing your teeth and so on. There are also special saucha therapeutic techniques, such as cleaning the nose and nasopharynx by drawing in salted water. There is no reason to use them regularly, but may be effective in the treatment of chronic rhinitis. The seventh principle is mitahara - pure nutrition. This has already been discussed in detail above. Here I mention only that it is best to take food in an emotionally positive. In any case, you should not eat on the background of discussions and arguments, bitter conflict, as well as in the presence of malignant or irritated skin. You can do meditation before taking a meal in order to align the internal state. For example, Orthodox prayer-meditation of the Heavenly Father is responsible for this purpose very well. Eight rule - Santosh - relies on a constant emotional maintaining a positive attitude. If we feel the presence of the Lord, and devote our lives to Him totally, if it does not work with self-interest, if we know that He is constantly watching us, leading us, teaching us that He creates difficulties for us so that we could learn, and then himself helps us to find solutions to problems - why do not we live in constant joy? The ninth principle is svadhyana - philosophical discussions, talks, readings, which make for a thorough understanding of the meaning of life and the road to perfection. "Fix your attention on me ..." - This way, Krishna laid the first steps that a person must take on the way to God. The tenth rule - tapas - any kind of self-control and self-limiting due to overcome our shortcomings. Among other things, teaches us the tapas, spiritual discipline, as well as the application of the principle "has to be done!" In contrast to the "I only do what I want." The eleventh rule is Ishvarapranidhana. That is the feeling that everything that exists is permeated with the Consciousness of the Creator (Ishvara), feeling of His constant presence inside and outside the body, the body of other people and material objects, seeing him as a teacher and a witness to everything he does and what happens to one. There are also four very important principles: - Kshama - tolerance for those who think differently; - Daya - compassion, kindness, - Arjava - simplicity, lack of arrogance; - HRI - lowliness of mind, the lack of: self-aggrandizing, self-pride because one of the real achievements and conceit - self-praise because of his imagination virtues.
Asana
In this context, the word asana means a posture, a stable body position. There are special methods for working with the body to prepare for the next steps in spiritual work. Systems of asanas and other exercises at this stage of work is called hatha yoga. They also help to gain initial concentration skills and ensure the development of entry-level structures of the body's energy. You have to start doing asanas only after studying and accepting the principles of the previous stage. The practice of hatha yoga without switching to the diet leads to the killing of free energy and their own brutalization of a thick accumulation of power, and this in turn leads astray from the true path.
The best time for doing asanas is early morning - approximately 4-5 am Each session of hatha yoga must be followed by a relaxation exercise called shavasana. Shavasana is to relax your body and mind in the supine position. We are on the back and make sure we feel good. Nothing should distract us. Then begin to relax the body starting from your feet. One can imagine a plane perpendicular to the axis of the body - like a glass wall - and move it through the body from head to toe, and for that surface tension does not remain. Give us a sense that we lose any sensation of the body parts for this plane. We discourage them, saying to himself: "This is not mine! This is not mine! ..." If you regain sensation of each body part, we can move the plane in this section once again. After the plane has passed through my head, that we may experience the following states: The first state: self-awareness disappears. We're going into something deep sleep, but it's not a dream. Self-consciousness is regained in about 18-20 minutes. We feel completely relaxed, as if after a long deep sleep. It is quite a blissful state. No need to stand up suddenly, but simply to enjoy.
The second state: self-consciousness is retained, but absolute peace comes to us. We can scan the entire body with the inner vision. We can enter the inner space of the body from the bottom and see the light and dark areas. Gray or black colors indicate disorder in one of the planes of energy that relate to the manifest or latent stages of the disease continues. We must try to collect all the dark stuff in heaps, as if the commission and dispose of the body. When doing shavasana, we may also experience involuntary full out of body material: we suddenly become aware of each other are in the usual form, but in an unusual position - for example, an increase above the floor or standing on his head and so on. There is nothing to worry about, but, once we want to return to the body - we will be there right away. But none of them are encouraged to perform such exits: they are out on the coarse space dimension - the so-called astral plane. We must learn to go straight to the highest spatial dimension, but the methods for doing this are different. Children under the age of 12 should not be taught shavasana: after to realize that they are outside the body, do not always want to go back to him.
Pranayama
Working with the energy in the body and the cocoon that surrounds it, is the task of the royal yoga. One method is here pranayama, which is translated as "energy work". Sometimes the term is wrongly interpreted as "breathing exercises. It is atheistic error. In fact, this energy is becoming aware that the motion during pranayam, but we can do this - for convenience - keeping time with the breath. Some of consciousness, which operates in the pranayam need to become a white light flowing. In this light, we wash all areas of bio-energy of impurities present in our body. This follows from the general improvement of health and the elimination of many diseases. Also, consciousness itself becomes a moving and active. Here are some general cleaning of the type of pranayama exercises are described. Stand up. Bend slightly to the right, so that the right hand is hanging freely, without touching the body. Try your hand to feel exactly the point of shoulder to wrist. Imagine that a pump chamber, to which the "air", the light is fed by the arm and the hose expands and contracts in the chest with each inhalation and exhalation.Particular attention should be paid to exhale. Try to achieve the clarity of feelings. "Snake" should be as thick as your arm and nothing should prevent the "air", the light to move freely in its interior. Perform the same exercise with your left hand, then with each leg."Snake" for each step should be to leave the box by the side of the body. Place images of two vessels, for example, barrels, under your feet. One of them is empty, the second is full of white liquid light. Touch the light with legs, hose and pump it through the body-pump into the second barrel. With every breath pump chamber inside the body and head is developed, using the full lumen through the leg. With each exhalation chamber is contracting, the light pouring through the second leg to an empty barrel. The light purifies the entire body from the inside. When a barrel of light, it becomes empty - fill it up again and the overthrow of the content of other barrel in the image of fire so that all the dirt that broadcast burns. Turn the body around over the barrels, and repeat the exercise. After that repeat the same, placing the barrel into his hands. In this way, be achieved by the feeling that your whole body is filled with bright, white light. The room in which to run pranayam should be illuminated by natural sunlight or light bulbs. Fluorescent lighting does not fit for that purpose, has a very negative impact on the energy of the human body. Pratyahara
Pratyahara does the word "remove indriyas from material objects."Pratyahara is the stage at which candidates learn to control the "tentacles" of consciousness, which are called indriyas in Sanskrit. This allows you to achieve the ability to see the subtle and subtle layers of multidimensional space, as well as to exit from the body of material to them and settle in them, accustomed to their subtlety, sensitivity and purity. Indriyas notion only exists in the Indian spiritual culture. Europeans with their simplistic, complex, and degradation of religious ideas are usually not able to capture that kind of knowledge. Even in translations from Indian languages, they substitute the word senses indriyas word that has lost its original meaning, in such a way that completely reject the very important methodological concepts and principles pratyahara work at that stage. Pratyahara Europeans translate the term as "temperance." But not all the senses, which is termed indriyas because indriyas the mind as well. It is also important that the image of "feelers" from a indriyas word gives a deep understanding of the principles of functioning of the mind and consciousness, and ways to control them. Krishna presented a basic knowledge of working with indriyas the Bhagavad Gita. He talked about indriyas vision, hearing, smell, touch, proprioreception, and those of the mind. And indeed: concentration on the object by all organs of the senses or mind is very similar to extending the tentacle of the body. When the switch concentration to another object, then disconnect and move our indriyas to him. In the same way the mind creates its own indriyas when we think about something or someone. People with developed sensitivity indriyas can see other people touching them. In some cases, may even see these indriyas and therefore they may affect them. Krishna said that one of the things that a man of science is the ability to draw all indriyas material world from the inside, like a tortoise retracts its paws and head into the shell. Then you need to expand indriyas the Divine eons in order to take God with them to turn to Him, and unite with Him. Now, Sathya Sai Baba - a modern Messiah - it also teaches them to control indriyas. Many of his books have been translated into Russian, but in them all the information about working with indriyas was lost due to inadequate translation. You can not achieve control over indriyas without mastering the ability to change the concentration of consciousness between the major chakras and meridians, or channels that form the microcosmic orbit, plus half of the meridian.
Dharana
Dharana means "to maintain normal levels." Proper concentration means keeping indriyas God. In other words, this is a true expression of our commitment to God, to the mergence with Him. But God in the aspect of the Creator, or the Holy Spirit is not accessible to direct perception at this stage of the practical. Our loving desire for God can be partially stopped working with a particular image of the Divine Master, for example, Jesus Christ, Babaji, and Sathya Sai Baba - One form, which in its past incarnation is known to us. If we hold the face of the Divine Master in the Anahata against the emotions of the most intense love, that we are able to gradually introduce the state when it was not me who look at the world from Anahata he alone. That means the deity (that's what this image is called) is alive, and we are partially merged with Him. After that we can live in unity with him in the Anahata, or move the concentration of consciousness chakra is located in the head, we turn to Him in Anahata as a consultant and teacher. It's not an illusion, but the actual entry of the Divine Master in his image created by us. It may also be an instructor in our meditation training. He will lead his devoted and loving disciples through his consciousness - to live Universal Consciousness of the Creator. "If you can imagine the image of the teacher in his consciousness with the clarity of the most complete, you can move your awareness into his, and therefore operates through its power, as it were. But for that you need to imagine a picture of the teachers with the utmost precision, in detail, so that the image does not flash, they suffer disruption or change its contours, as often happens. But if you make a single concentration goes to relying on the teacher's permanent image, thus you can get the most benefit for themselves, for those around one, and for work "
.. "You may be asked, as the entrance to the road service is defined. Of course, the first character will not abandon the past and the future total beginner. The second character will be to implement a teacher is not in my heart, because it is his" duty ", but because it is not possible in otherwise. The third sign will be the rejection of fear, because who watches by the Lord is not affected. The fourth will be non-condemnation, because he who strives for the future, there is no time to refuse to deal with yesterday. The fifth will fill out all the time from work for the future. The sixth will be the joy of the Service and sacrifice for the good of the world. The seventh will be a spiritual pursuit in the direction of distant worlds predestined path. According to these characters, you can see the spirit that manifests itself and is ready for service. He understands where you lift up a sword for the Lord, and His the word is from his heart "(Hierarchy: 90) .. If you work with the deity does not produce immediate results, you can use visualization exercises. They can practice creating images that help develop chakras and visualize delightful pictures to communicate with the life of nature, etc. But only those images that are filled with joy happiness, harmony, joy, subtlety, and happiness will do for your normal spiritual development. Appropriate types of paintings, musical compositions and artistic photography, etc. It can also serve as an aid.
Dhyana
Dhyana is the stage of meditative trainings that lead to Samadhi. Meditation is the work aimed at raising awareness of the "development on the road to excellence and mergence with the Creator. Meditation is practiced in three stages of Patanjali. At the stage of Dharana, students, among other things, learn to develop awareness of the subtlest and most beautiful that exists in the material world. Through such activities are in alignment sattva guna. And thanks to the cooperation with the deity can directly contact with the Fiery manifestation of Divine Consciousness and experience Samadhi. At the dhyana stage, students work on increasing the "mass" of awareness and gain power in subtlety. In the next stage, their efforts have focused on the interaction of individual consciousness with the awareness of Universal God and join Him in His infinity. At the stage of dhyana, meditative work is especially effective if it is performed in special places of power - areas on the surface of the Earth, which have a particular impact on people power. Among many of them only, please go to the expansion of consciousness in the subtlest eons. Properly chosen subsequence such places ensures that the most complex tasks proper crystallization (ie volume increase) will be solved easily awareness and with little effort. For the same purpose may be to meditate during practice sports, as well as swimming and winter running meditation practices. The structure of the human organism responsible for meditation is the bubble of perception (the term was introduced by Juan Matus), the major part of which is the Anahata chakra, powered by the lower dantyan (composed of the three lower chakras.) From the beginning, meditation training to an absolute connection to the consciousness of victory, you must always remember that the main merit of man measured the level of spiritual development of the heart. What a man can connect with God first. Therefore, it is the spiritual heart that man should develop and keep it clean in every way possible. The aforementioned allows us not as nice drawing words or metaphor, but a very practical knowledge and instruction. The degrees of the ladder of spiritual ascent, that we now have on the teaching of language one post, as consciousness, first, Anahata cleaned, and then to ensure growth Anahata in the body, and then beyond it - in a cocoon, then the planet Earth and beyond in highest eons. In this way we can develop as Love. God is Love, so can be combined only after the great love, great soul, consisting of Love (Mahatma)! And there are no other ways of developing the Divinity, with the exception of the basic steps that we are describing here.
Samadhi
This phase includes a number of the highest spiritual achievements - from the first Samadhi - the mergence with awareness. Awareness of the spiritual seeker is prepared in the previous stages is able to make contact with the consciousness of God eons. These first contacts to give a vivid new bliss, which is what this term means Samadhi. In contrast to the Samadhi, Nirvana is stable mergence with awareness of God, in which localized sense of "I" disappears.Nirvana is the meaning of "Total burn away", ie the loss of individuality through the mergence with God in the aspect of the Holy Spirit or Creator. And what happens in reality. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna speaks about Samadhi and the two main stages Nirvana: Nirvana in Brahman (the Holy Spirit) and Nirvana in Ishvara (the Creator). But in India, the term Nirvana became widely used by Buddhists at some point in time, and later, this term along with Buddhism, was "expelled" from India by the Hindus. Instead of Nirvana, Hindu school has increased the importance of the concept of Samadhi, by adding to it various prefixes. Various schools used these composite words and for this reason, the term Samadhi has become "fragmented" and lost its uniqueness. Therefore, we can go back to the exact terminology, God introduced to the spiritual culture through Krishna. So, to get from Samadhi (Bliss Contact) Nirvana (mergence) need to have a large and strong awareness, developed through previous training. Besides, it must be firmly rooted in the subtleties of God. If these conditions are met, then all you need to do is simply find the entrance to the eon required, enter it, and dissolve into his consciousness by a total of reciprocity, which is up to you in advance. This task requires not only skill, but of ethics, meditation and preparation: the destruction of the lower side in every way possible and replacing it with collective self-defense, and then with the universal consciousness, ie Paramatman. Only in this way a person can connect to the unlimited power of God. "... We have an inexhaustible reservoir of psychic energy" (Hierarchy: 394), says God. But "if one were to explain the conditions and goals of yoga, the number of applicants would not be great. Terrible for them would be a renunciation of selfhood ..." Therefore said I want to quote the book of Carlos Castaneda's The Power of Silence "... War, (spiritual) warrior, fighting is the total that the individual himself, that deprives man of his power." ... One examines the highest eons after the second one Absolute. Before you start exploring the next eon, you need to gather forces of consciousness for a long time, sometimes for years, to be able to enter it and remain in it. The only exception is people who come to these stages in their past lives and maintained the necessary amount of personal power and subtlety of the level of consciousness.
